Propycil® 50 mg contains propylthiouracil (PTU), a medication used to manage an overactive thyroid.
What is it used for?
Propycil is prescribed to treat hyperthyroidism, including Graves’ disease. It is often used when other antithyroid medicines (such as methimazole) are not suitable. In specific situations, it may be used short-term in thyroid storm or during early pregnancy, under close medical supervision.
How does it work?
Propycil reduces the production of thyroid hormones and partially blocks the conversion of the hormone T4 into its more active form, T3, helping to bring thyroid levels back toward normal.
